Before we start

Two quick questions that decide which reliefs you can claim. Keep your Statement of Emoluments from your employer nearby — most figures come straight from it.

Were you resident in Mauritius during the income year?Maps to line 14.1. Most reliefs and deductions require residency.
14.1
Are you married? If yes, some reliefs (housing loan, solar, rainwater) can be split with your spouse — the tool will ask.
1.1
Are you a retired or disabled person?"Retired" = aged 60 before the start of the income year and not receiving business income or emoluments over Rs 50,000 (other than pension). Grants an additional deduction at line 14.5.
14.5

Salary & emoluments

Copy these from your Statement of Emoluments and Tax Deduction (your employer must give it to you by 15 August). One row per employer — these become the Annex — Emoluments table and section 11.

Other income

Switch on only what applies to you. Anything left on "No" is simply skipped.

Did you receive taxable interest?e.g. corporate bonds, deposits where tax applies. Note: interest on ordinary savings/fixed deposits with Mauritian banks is generally exempt — put that under exempt income below instead.
4.1
Did you receive dividends from Mauritian companies?Dividends paid by resident companies are exempt — they are declared for information at 7.1.1 but not taxed.
7.1.1
Did you earn rent from property in Mauritius?Gross rent minus allowable expenses (repairs, loan interest on the let property, syndic fees…).
2.3
Did you remit income from outside Mauritius?Foreign dividends, rent or interest actually remitted to Mauritius (residents are taxed on remittance).
5.3
Any other income from Mauritius?Royalties, annuities, private tuition, or anything not covered above. Business/trade income (section 2.1) is best done with the full accounts — this tool flags it for you.

Deductions & reliefs interview

Go through each question — even the ones you think don't apply. Caps are applied automatically and anything over the limit is flagged, not silently accepted.
